MEET OUR DIRECTOR - FRED BOSCO

Welcome to NAISMITH BASKETBALL CAMP! Where memories are made, skills are developed and lasting friendships are formed.

Fred Bosco is a dedicated teacher and coach with a focus on physical education, guidance and leadership. He is passionate about basketball and continues to coach and develop many successful programs at the high school and club level.

Fred joined the Naismith Basketball Camp family as a parent and coach in 2017. Here he got to know and appreciate the Dahl family and all they had created at Naismith Basketball Camp. When Roy and Marty Dahl retired in 2021, it was a natural fit for Fred to take over the role of Director.

Fred and his family are proud to continue building on the amazing legacy that the Dahl family created in their 35 years of dedication to Naismith Basketball Camp. The outstanding staff and awesome campers are what continues to make Naismith Basketball Camp, year after year, …

The Campers are divided into groups by age. Our youngest campers are in the CNBA, followed by the NBA, NCAA, and the oldest campers are in the CIS division. The teaching sessions are tailored to the age and ability level to ensure that camera are challenged to improve their fundamental basketball skills. During their time at Naismith, campers are coached and supervised by outstanding coaches and counsellors, who choose to come back to Naismith year after year and share their expertise with our campers

ABOUT OUR COACHES

The Naismith coaching staff have been selected from Ontario’s leading school and club coaches, to facilitate our main goal of providing the best individual basketball skills instruction possible. Not only are they outstanding coaches, they are excellent teachers and leaders, who instill qualities of discipline, co-operation, team play, motivation and sportsmanship.

Our teaching stations are organized and led by “master” coaches, who have had successful coaching and teaching experiences at various university and secondary school basketball programs. All of our coaches are certified through the National Coaching Certification program and those that are not teachers all have had police checks.

The Directors know each coach intimately and many return year after year – as they share a common passion – basketball and kids. Throw in a Muskoka waterfront setting and it is magic!

ABOUT OUR COUNSELLORS

All cabins are supervised by a qualified counsellor, a graduate of Naismith, over the age of 18. Most are superb basketball players, and all have had leadership roles in their schools and community. The skills they have developed enable them to organize and lead and evening recreation program, “Colour Wars”, designed to create a fun atmosphere where it is easy for campers to get to know each other.

Our Counsellors sleep in the cabins and eat all meals with their campers, ensuring that they are safe, clean, rested and well fed. Counsellors also act as assistant coaches and demonstrate at the teaching stations.

ABOUT OUR FACILITIES

Located in the heart of Muskoka, Camp New Moon, on the beautiful Lake of Bays, near Baysville, Ontario ranks second to none in summer camp facilities. Is it fully equipped with 9 outdoor courts, 28 camper cabins each equipped with washrooms and electricity, and separate male and female showers. There is also a rec hall with a stage to accommodate 300 people, a fully equipped medical and training centre, and a fabulous dining hall that overlooks the lake to serve our great food (vegetarian meals on request).

During free time, campers are encouraged to use the waterfront to swim, canoe, kayak or waterski. Qualified lifeguards are on duty and Camp New Moon provides certified waterski and wakeboard instructors.
